Reception

Welcome to Reception's 'Home Learning' page!

Here you will find lots of activities to support your child's learning at home. There will be a weekly link to a song to sing together and a 'bedtime story' to share with your child, with questions you can ask them to develop their understanding and language skills.

Each week we will add a 'home learning plan'. These are simple lesson plans for you to follow, and support your child's learning in English and maths.

Remember to check the Redhill School Twitter feed. We will be Tweeting lots of links to creative and fun activities on here, as well as links to websites for your child to use. It would be great if you could post photos of your child's work on Twitter- we'd love to see them!

We miss our Reception families so much and can't wait to see what the children are up to!

This week, our bedtime story is “Owl Babies”.

One night, the three baby owls called Sarah, Percy and Bill, wake up. Their owl mother is gone! Listen to the story to find out what happens to the owl babies.

Questions you can ask your child to help their speaking, listening and understanding:

  • How do you think the baby owls are feeling? Why do you think that?
  • Ask your child to repeat “I want my mummy” as they listen.
  • Where do you think the owl mummy has gone?
  • How did they feel when she came back?
  • What makes you feel like that?

In September your child will be in Year 1. This year, transition into a new class will look a little bit different. To support your child to prepare for Year 1, it would be great if you could help them to complete these activities. You could either print them out, or ask your child to draw some pictures and write a few words to bring to school in September to give to their new teacher, Miss Perrott. Here are some ideas of what you can do at home. Click on the links to see them.

  1. My favourite memories from Reception class.
  2. Spreading my wings from Reception to Year 1.
  3. My Wish for Year 1.
  4. Some key skills I will need for Year 1.

As well as these, have a look at this site to find out more about the Year 1 curriculum and learning expectations. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/back-to-school/get-ready-for-year-1/

If you have any questions, or want to know more about coming back to school in September, please get in touch!

Take care and we will see you all very soon,
